—  About

Imani was born in Harlem, NY and grew up in an artistic family.

From the start Imani was on the music, dance, and acting scene – taking it all in and learning as she went. While exploring the world of acting, she landed a few child modeling jobs, doing print and Runway work. In that time at the ripe age of 10, she had her “Ah Ha!” moment, and realized that she loved being behind-the-scenes designing and creating more than being in the spotlight. From there, Imani started her design career and enrolled at pre-college programs at Parsons School of Design and F.I.T (The Fashion Institute of Technology). Imani also trained at the High School of Fashion Industries in 2001.

During high school, Imani honed her craft and realized that draping and sewing were her favorite things to do, and when she went on to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design she took lots of electives that focused on evening wear. It was at SCAD where she realized that creating evening wear and making footwear was an attainable goal. In 2009, Imani graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design and a Minor in Accessory Design.

Upon graduation Imani obtained a job in the footwear design industry while also maintaining her skills in women's wear by working on small projects with private clients in between jobs. During her career in footwear and fashion, Imani traveled domestically and internationally overseeing production and development of accessories and clothing.

In 2017 Imani decided to add to her accolades by obtaining a Master of Fine Arts with a concentration in Creative Technology from Teachers College Columbia University. In 2019 she graduated with her Masters and Creative Technology Certificate and has began teaching both educators and students as a Fashion based Creative Technologist. Her Masters Thesis is on making Fashion a part of STEAM based education.

Imani continues to build her fashion brand ImaniLia Fashions, LLC while changing the way educators teach and students learn by using Fashion and Technology. She stays inspired by her daily life and the people around her. Lets CREATE!
