About
About Imani..
Imani was born in Harlem, NY and grew up in an artistic family. Her mother always aspired to be a company-trained dancer and her sister was a professional R&B singer. From the start Imani was on the music, dance and acting scene – taking it all in and learning as she went. While exploring the world of acting, she landed a few child modeling jobs, doing print and Runway work. In that time at the ripe age of 10, she had her “Ah Ha!” moment, and realized that she loved being behind-the-scenes designing and creating more than being in the spotlight. From there, Imani started her design career and enrolled at pre-college programs at Parsons School of Design and F.I.T (The Fashion Institute of Technology). Imani also trained at the High School of Fashion Industries in 2001.
During high school, Imani honed her craft and realized that draping and sewing were her favorite things to do, and when she went on to study at the Savannah College of Art and Design she took lots of electives that focused on evening wear. It was at SCAD where she realized that making footwear was an attainable goal. Imani has always had large feet and it was a dream of hers to make her own footwear one day. In 2009, Imani graduated with a BFA in Fashion Design and a Minor in Accessory Design.
Upon graduation Imani obtained a job in footwear design. Although this is her main career trajectory, she’s maintaining her skills in women's wear by working on small projects with private clients in between jobs. During her career in footwear and fashion, Imani has traveled domestically and internationally overseeing production and development of accessories and clothing. She is also well versed in fashion-based market research and brand development.
Imani continues to be inspired by her daily life and the people around her. Lets CREATE!
